1980's Scaasi Boutique Dress
1980's Scaasi Boutique Dress
vintage 1980's couture designer Arnold Scaasi Boutique royal blue brocade dress
decadent and delightful...
if you’ve never worn, owned, or even just held an Arnold Scaasi dress, you should. Born as Arnold Isaacs (he later reversed his name to “Scaasi”) in 1931 in Montreal, Canada, he studied at the Cotnoir-Capponi Design School before leaving for Paris to attend the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture Parisenne and apprenticing at the House of Paquin.
After his studies in 1953, he returned to New York where he began to work with Charles James; no doubt it was here that the inspiration towards extravagant designs began and continued throughout his career. His success included designs for several First Ladies, countless famous actresses, and of course numerous awards… I’ve included some links to more detailed information if you’d like to learn more about this infamous and very accomplished designer.
This dress is from his Scaasi Boutique line which started in 1984 and is very well known to be top quality, beautifully made, and quite expensive; and you can be sure he did not hold back, here. Again, if you ever get an opportunity to hold one of these dresses in your hands, you must; the quality of materials and couture craftsmanship is impossible to overlook… amazing.
“Scaasi creations are rarely easy to ignore; their ostentatious quality has become a signature of the designer's work.”
